2011
Christmas Workshop: At the beginning of December we had a festive workshop day at the studio full of singing, dance and drama. We put up our Christmas tree, decorated the rooms with paper chains, sang carols and watched ‘Elf’ on DVD!
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change: In September we performed our very first full length musical at the Brewhouse in Burton. The show followed the trials and tribulations of falling in love from your first date to your wedding day and beyond with wonderfully witty songs, beautiful ballads and hilarious comedy scenes. It was a great success, with fabulous comic performances from eight of our senior students plus five of our teachers. The reaction from the audience was amazing - I’ve never heard them laugh so much! Well done to everyone in the cast and a special thank you to our director Dan Webber.
You Should Be Dancing!: At the beginning of June our Burton school performed three shows at the Brewhouse Theatre. We had stunning costumes and wonderful dance routines along with excerpts from Annie and Legally Blonde the musical. The shows were a great success with every student performing very professionally - congratulations everyone on a fabulous show!
Annie: Our school provided nine girls to play the roles of Orphans in the UK Tour of ‘Annie’ when it came to the Derby Assembly Rooms in April. We auditioned 45 of our pupils and they all worked really hard with their singing, dancing and acting pieces. Congratulations to Holly, Eleanor, Keely, Jessica, Elena, Annabelle, Ashleigh, Lauren and Cristianna who performed eight shows throughout the week, singing songs such as ‘Hard Knock Life’, ‘You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile’ and the famous classic ‘Tomorrow’. They gave excellent performances and we were very proud of them all!
BADAC Bursaries: In March six of our students auditioned for a bursary from Burton and District Arts Council. They were all successful and will use the cash awards for further training and audition expenses. Well done to Amy & Josie who both performed a dance solo. Chris, Dan, Emma and Emily were also successful through their respective drama and singing teachers. I would like to thank BADAC for their continued support of our young students.
Theatre Dance Awards: Josie was nominated to attend the IDTA Theatre Dance Awards following excellent performances in her Grade 5 Modern and Grade 4 Tap exams. In February she spent the day in Manchester competing against over 60 other dance students from across the country and got down to the final 17 in the Modern group, which is a great achievement - well done!
Shrek Workshop: During the February Half Term holiday we held a day of workshops on Shrek - a new musical coming to London this year. The children learnt songs from the show plus dance routines and drama activities based around fairy tales!
