Summer Workshops: We are offering various Musical Theatre workshops throughout the summer holidays. Please email Miss Sally for more information and application forms: sally@cabaret-theatre-school.com
Joseph: Well done to Jessica who successfully auditioned to be part of the children’s choir in the professional production of ‘Joseph’ at the
Theatre Royal, Nottingham in September/October. Congratulations!
Fame: Congratulations to five of our senior students who all successfully auditioned to perform in the youth production of Fame at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham this summer. Amy, Olivia, Emily, Louise and Josie will rehearse for two weeks with a professional director and choreographer and then take part in five full scale performances in August. Chris will be working as a backstage theatre technician again for the second year running. Good Luck!
TV Workshop: Congratulations to Josie who was accepted into Nottingham’s TV Workshop and starts Drama sessions with them every Wednesday from September. One thousand young people auditioned and only three new members were chosen - well done Josie!
Legally Blonde: In June members of our Stretton school took a trip to London to see ‘Legally Blonde’ at the Savoy Theatre. We will be performing songs from this musical in our next show so it was a wonderful opportunity for our senior students to see what they’ve got to aim for!!
Summer Gala: At the end of June we performed at the William Shrewsbury School Gala. We presented several song & dance numbers, a gymnastic dance routine and a few solos too. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and a very enjoyable chance for our pupils to show off their talents!
Ballet: Congratulations to Cristianna who has successfully auditioned for the Royal Ballet School’s Junior Associate programme in Birmingham. She will start classes with them every Saturday in September. Cristianna has also been accepted into the Classical Academy at Tring Park School. She will be taking ballet classes there on six Sundays every term. Well done!
New Studio: In June we had the Grand Opening of our new Burton studio. We moved to Sovereign Business Park on Hawkins Lane, where we have a building with two dance studios fully fitted with professional flooring, ballet barres and mirrors.
Young performers 2010: A group of 12 pupils performed at Her Majesty's Theatre in London on Sunday 23 May in a show organised by the ‘Young Performers’ company who raise money for children's charities through programme sales. Our pupils performed a ‘Me and My Girl’ song & dance medley and a tap routine to ‘Mr Sandman’. It was an amazing opportunity for them to perform in the West End at such a young age. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the theatre all day and they worked very hard in preparation for their big performance. Well done!
BADAC Bursaries: In March four of our students auditioned for a bursary from Burton and District Arts Council. They were all successful and will use the cash awards for further training and audition expenses. Well done to Amy, Josie, Louise and Natalia who all performed a dance solo. Dan and Emily were also successful through their respective drama and singing teachers.
Joseph: Congratulations to seven of our pupils who successfully auditioned to perform in the professional touring production of ‘Joseph’ when it came to Derby Assembly Rooms in June. Eleanor, Keely, Antonia, Holly, Rhiannon, Cristianna and Elena sung in the choir for all 12 shows - well done girls!!
Royal Ballet School: Congratulations to eleven year old Natalia who has just been accepted to train full time at the Royal Ballet School in London starting in September. Natalia has been with us since the age of three and we will miss her terribly but we are incredibly proud of her achievement and wish her lots of luck as she starts her professional ballet training. She will join our former pupil Maddie who will be in her fifth and final year at the Royal Ballet School as Natalia enters her first year. Well done!!
High School Musical: During the Easter holidays we held another High School Musical workshop day at Stretton. The older group had great fun learning a dance routine incorporating basket balls taught by our senior student Steph, whilst the younger group tried out some more cheerleading moves with Josie! Both groups had a fun-filled session with our wonderful Drama teacher Dan Webber as well as learning songs from the Disney film.
Les Miserables: Ten year old Eleanor successfully auditioned to play the part of little Cosette in the musical ‘Les Miserables’ when it came to Birmingham in March and April. The show starred Gareth Gates and visited Birmingham Hippodrome for four weeks as part of the UK Tour. This was Eleanor’s first professional role and she sang beautifully and her acting was excellent. Well done, we’re very proud!
Theatre Dance Awards: In February Louise and Amy competed at the IDTA International Theatre Dance Awards. Louise was nominated for her performance in her Grade 5 Ballet exam, while Amy was nominated for Grade 4 Modern. There were over 50 students in the Ballet section and 100 in the Modern group. We had a lovely weekend in Manchester and it was a real honour for them to be nominated - congratulations!
Dance Day: In the February half term holiday we held a day of dance workshops at Stretton. We invited younger children to a session on High School Musical whilst the older pupils worked on High School Musical 2! We enjoyed singing, drama, dancing and cheerleading with guest teachers Sara, Dan and Steph. Everyone worked incredibly hard and it was a really fun day!
One Short Day: In February our Littleover school performed their latest show ‘One Short Day’ at Landau Forte College, Derby. They produced three wonderful performances with fabulous costumes and great song & dance routines. All our dancers were very professional and enthusiastic - well done everyone!
Laine’s Junior Squad: Josie joined the Junior Squad at Laine Theatre Arts, one of the top Musical Theatre colleges in the country. She attended monthly workshops from October to February in Dance, Drama and Singing. Classes were taught by professional teachers and West End performers, giving valuable insight into life at a professional Musical Theatre College.
