Emma did her third year running at Stoke’s Regent Theatre, performing in ‘Cinderella’. Amy made her debut panto appearance in ‘Dick Whittington’ at the Nottingham Playhouse and three sets of siblings danced in the Pantomime at Drayton Manor Park! Blu and Neve, Hannah and Charlotte, and Emily, Peter and Laura were all in ‘Peter Pan’ at the Big Top Theatre.

National Youth Ballet
(Click to enlarge) National Youth Ballet: In October Emma performed with the National Youth Ballet at Saddlers Wells Theatre, London and at Leatherhead Theatre, Surrey for six performances of ‘The Old Man of Lochnagar’. Auditions were held at four venues throughout the country to find talented young ballet dancers to join the company for their production of this new full length ballet which is based on a story by HRH The Prince of Wales.

(Click to enlarge) Ballet: Congratulations to Natalia who successfully auditioned for a place on the Royal Ballet School’s Junior Associate programme. From September she will be training in Birmingham every Saturday. Well done also to Emma for gaining a second year on a similar programme run by Elmhurst Ballet School, also in Birmingham. And we wish Maddie continued success as she enters her second year of full time training at the Royal Ballet School in London.

Copacabana: During the summer holidays Josie performed in a youth production of ‘Copacabana’ at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham. She had to audition to win a part in the chorus of the famous Barry Manilow musical. Following two weeks of all-day rehearsals the company of 12-24 year olds presented the show over four days in August. Earlier in the year Josie was also awarded a bursary from Burton and District Arts Council (BADAC) after impressing them with her ballet solo at auditions held at the Brewhouse. This money is to help fund her future dance training.

English Youth Ballet: At the beginning of August three of our pupils performed in the English Youth Ballet’s production of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Regent Theatre in Stoke. Natalia, Hannah and Josie were successful in auditioning for the chance to appear alongside professional dancers in a full scale production of this classic ballet. They rehearsed for 11 days before taking part in three performances. Well done girls.

Presentation Days: We had two exam sessions at Stretton this summer and one in October and all the certificates and awards were given out at our Presentation Days. Trophies were also presented to the pupils with the highest marks in each dance subject. We had excellent results again this year -well done to everyone who took an exam. Special congratulations to Josie and Amy who were nominated to audition at the International Theatre Dance Awards in 2008, based on their performance in their Grade 5 Ballet exam.
