2009
Pantomimes: Congratulations to Josie who successfully auditioned for this year’s panto at Nottingham Playhouse. She performed in ‘Beauty & The Beast’ for two months over Christmas. As part of the ensemble she took on the role of the Teapot and also a Can Can dancer!
Loud & Proud!: Our Stretton school brought their new all-singing show 'Loud & Proud' to the Brewhouse this October. For two nights, a talented group of young performers presented an evening of fabulous songs from musicals such as Sister Act, Jersey Boys, Bugsy Malone and Grease. Having outgrown the Bistro Bar, the singing show migrated to the auditorium this year to wonderful effect - both performances looked and sounded fantastic, with all performers giving it their all. Well done!
Dance Day: In the October half term holiday we held a day of workshops based around High School Musical. Sixteen girls attended and we had sessions in singing, drama, dance and cheerleading. Everyone worked incredibly hard and it was a really fun day for the children and the teachers!
Angelina Ballerina Children’s Award: Popular children’s character Angelina Ballerina launched a new national dance award initiative for young performers across the UK in a search to find the ultimate young budding ballerina aged up to 9 years old. Cristianna was lucky enough to be shortlisted along with 16 other young performers from across the country and invited to audition live in front of the panel of judges in the studios of English National Ballet in October. She had a lovely morning meeting Angelina and performing her ballet solo - well done!
Oliver: During the summer holidays four of our students worked on the musical ‘Oliver’ at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. Emily, Amy and Louise performed as singer/dancers and Chris worked on the technical side of things backstage. After two weeks of intense rehearsals with a professional director the cast of young people put on 5 fantastic performances.
Summer School: Ten year old Natalia was accepted onto the Royal Ballet School summer course at White Lodge in July. At the end of a very busy week of ballet classes she was presented with a commendation award - congratulations!
BADAC: Burton and District Arts Council organise bursary awards each year for local young performers. These grants help fund extra tuition, professional courses and performance opportunities. Four of our students auditioned this year and they all received cash bursaries. Well done to Amy, Josie, Emma and Natalia.
Charity Show: At the end of March a group of our dancers performed in a charity show at the Town Hall. The performance raised money for Burton Hospital and also included local singers and drama students.
Hairspray: In February a group of our Mums and Daughters went to Stoke’s Regent Theatre to watch Sing-a-long-a Hairspray! We had a really fun night singing along to all the songs from the film such as ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ and ‘Welcome to the 60’s’ as well as cheering for Tracy and Link and booing Velma and Amber!
