Many of our students have been fortunate enough to fulfil their dreams of performing in professional productions.
Since 2010 our students have worked professionally every year…
Seven Cabaret pupils successfully auditioned to be in the professional production of ‘Joseph’ at Nottingham Theatre Royal in April. The show starred X Factor winner Joe McElderry.
The girls were part of the children’s choir and were on stage for the entire show, singing nearly every song including the well known tunes ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and ‘Close Every Door To Me’.
This was the fourth professional production of Joseph that has featured Cabaret pupils and it was a great experience for them all!
Huge congratulations to Emily-May who played the role of Matilda in the West End in 2016. She began playing the lead role in the professional West End musical in March, and had a six month contract. She went through a lengthy audition period to get to this point – it started way back in April 2015 and only finished in December after seven trips to London where she had to sing both solo songs from the show, read parts of the script and learn a dance routine.
We couldn’t be prouder of her achievement, she was the first ever Cabaret pupil to perform professionally in the West End and Matilda is such a fantastic musical to be involved in. It was the most amazing adventure and a truly fabulous experience. Well done Emily-May!
Twenty of our students danced in Pop Factor at the Guildhall Theatre, Derby at the end of March 2015. They were backing dancers during the song ‘Happy’ and had just 2 hours to learn the routine when the choreographer visited our studio in February. We had a really fun night at the theatre and the show was a sell out!
In April 2014 12 of our pupils performed as the Lost Children in Enchanted Entertainment’s production of Peter Pan. They starred alongside Bobby Davro and Dani Harmer at The Guildhall Theatre, Derby. Six of the girls had speaking roles and Danielle also took on the role of Tinkerbell. They gave four fabulous performances and it was a really fun show to be involved in, well done!
Congratulations to Dani who successfully auditioned for a role in the professional production of ‘Kes’ at Derby Theatre during September and October 2013. She was given a speaking role and played the part of the messenger and a school girl. The production received rave reviews and Dani gave an excellent performance.

Cristianna, Annabelle, Holly and Jessica successfully auditioned to appear in the professional production of ‘Oliver!’ at the Birmingham Hippodrome for six weeks during March and April 2012. The show starred Brian Conley and Neil Morissey as Fagin and Samantha Barks from the TV talent show ‘I’d Do Anything’ as Nancy. The girls were on stage for several acting scenes and they also joined the rest of the cast to perform three song & dance routines: ‘Food Glorious Food’, ‘Consider Yourself’ and ‘Who Will Buy’. It was an excellent production to be a part of – well done girls!
Congratulations to T’yanna and Emily-May who performed in ‘The King & I’ at Nottingham Theatre Royal in February/March 2012 and to Antonia and Eleanor who performed at the Birmingham Hippodrome in May. All four girls played the roles of the King’s children, singing the classic song ‘Getting To Know You’. They were stunning productions and a wonderful experience for them to be involved in a professional musical. Emily-May was then asked to take on a speaking role in the show when it came to the Curve Theatre, Leicester in May – well done!
Our school provided nine girls to play the roles of Orphans in the UK Tour of ‘Annie’ when it came to the Derby Assembly Rooms in April 2011. We auditioned 45 of our pupils and they all worked really hard with their singing, dancing and acting pieces. Congratulations to Holly, Eleanor, Keely, Jessica, Elena, Annabelle, Ashleigh, Lauren and Cristianna who performed eight shows throughout the week, singing songs such as ‘Hard Knock Life’, ‘You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile’ and the famous classic ‘Tomorrow’. They gave excellent performances and we were very proud of them all!
